About

Lake Cleveland East Side Campground occupies a scenic alpine lake basin at 8,300 feet elevation in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest. The East loop features 17 campsites, with 7 available for reservation through Recreation.gov and the remaining 10 on a first-come, first-served basis. This side of the campground is better suited for large RVs and trailers compared to the West loop, which has tighter turnarounds. The campground is very popular with local communities and fills every weekend from early July through Labor Day. Activities include fishing, kayaking, swimming, and hiking in the surrounding alpine meadows. Non-motorized boating and floating are permitted on Lake Cleveland. Nearby attractions include the Mt. Harrison fire lookout tower two miles away and Pomerelle ski area, which offers lift-served access to mountain bike and hiking trails. Facilities are primitive with vault toilets and picnic tables but no potable water or hookups. Campers are limited to two vehicles per site and must observe a 14-day camping limit per 28-day period. No motorized boats or horses are permitted in the campground area.

Directions

From Interstate 84, take exit 216 and follow State Highway 77 south approximately 18 miles, through the towns of Declo and Albion, to Howell Canyon Road. Turn west at the Pomerelle Ski Area sign and drive up the canyon on Howell Canyon Road another 7 miles. The road is steep and winding; use caution with travel trailers and RVs.
