About

Priscilla Peak Lookout stands atop 7,005-foot Priscilla Peak in the Sundance Ridge roadless area of the Cabinet Mountains in western Montana. Built in 1929, this shake-walled, gable roof L-2 cupola cabin is one of only three remaining lookouts of this architectural style in the USFS Northern Region. The structure was restored and added to the cabin rental program in 1994, but was later withdrawn due to insufficient use. Access to the peak requires a challenging 9.4-mile round-trip hike from the trailhead near Thompson Falls, averaging around 7 hours to complete. The remote location and strenuous access likely contributed to low rental demand. The lookout is not currently listed on Recreation.gov or the Lolo National Forest's active cabin and lookout rental offerings. The structure remains as a historic landmark, but overnight stays are not available.

Directions

Access is via a challenging 9.4-mile round-trip hike from a trailhead near Thompson Falls, Montana. The route gains significant elevation to reach the 7,005-foot summit.
