About
T.O. Fuller State Park holds the distinction of being the only state park within Memphis city limits and the first state park east of the Mississippi River open to African Americans when it was established by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938. The 1,138-acre park sits along the Chickasaw Bluffs in southwest Memphis, roughly 10 miles south of downtown and minutes from Graceland. The single-loop campground contains 45 sites set among mature hardwood trees. All sites offer water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, with approximately 10 pull-through options and the remainder configured as back-in sites. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to 85 feet. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, lantern hanger, fire ring, and grill. The centrally located bathhouse provides restrooms, hot showers, and coin-operated laundry, while a dump station near the campground entrance serves RV campers. Beyond camping, the park offers six miles of hiking trails, a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, and a seasonal nature center. The C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa, a National Historic Landmark featuring a prehistoric Native American village excavation, is located within the park grounds.
Directions
From downtown Memphis, head south on US-61 (Third Street) for approximately 8 miles. Turn right onto Mitchell Road and continue west for about 1 mile. The park entrance will be on your left at 1500 Mitchell Road.
