About
Outlet Channel Day Use Area is located just off Scenic Loop 304 on the downstream side of Arkabutla Dam in Tate County, Mississippi. The facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Arkabutla Lake project on the Coldwater River. The area offers a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing at the outlet channel, where anglers can pursue largemouth bass, bream, catfish, and crappie. Visitors have access to individual picnic sites, a group picnic shelter, and a newly constructed playground. The site also serves as a trailhead for the Swinging Bridge Nature Trail and the Coldwater River Nature Trail System, which include interpretive features about local wildlife and ecosystems. While the facility is classified as a day-use area, it reportedly has a tent camping area. A Coast Guard approved personal flotation device is required for all water activities on Arkabutla Lake.
