About

Located just north of Memphis in a 12,549-acre forested preserve, Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park Campground provides 49 campsites in a natural setting. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, grill, electric hookup, and water hookup, with several sites now offering full sewer hookups as well. The campground recently completed renovations that include fully updated bathhouses with hot showers, a new three-level playground tower, a community fire pit, and an improved pavilion gathering space. The campground features a dump station for RVs and enforces a 14-day maximum stay (28 days December through February). Modern amenities include the renovated bathhouse facilities while maintaining the peaceful, wooded atmosphere of the park. Beyond camping, the park offers over 20 miles of hiking trails through forests of large oaks, cypress, and other hardwoods, as well as access to Poplar Tree Lake. The park is home to abundant wildlife including deer, turkey, beaver, and approximately 200 species of birds. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system. Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM. The campground enforces quiet hours between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and only certified heat-treated firewood or downed wood collected within the park is permitted to protect against invasive forest pests.

Directions

From Memphis take TN Highway 388 North until it dead ends. At the dead end turn left and go 1 mile to a four-way stop. At Shelby Forest General Store turn right, go 1 mile, then take a left turn into the park.
