About
Reelfoot Lake State Park preserves one of Tennessee's most distinctive natural features: a shallow, cypress-studded lake created by the catastrophic New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812. The 15,000-acre lake averages just 5 feet deep and supports exceptional fishing for crappie, bass, and bluegill, along with one of the largest wintering populations of bald eagles in the eastern United States.
The park operates two campgrounds. The South Campground, located on Highway 21-22, offers 86 paved RV and tent sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical hookups plus water at each site. Three bathhouses serve campers, with two providing hot showers and one featuring a washer, dryer, and dish washing area. A dump station sits at the entrance. Each campsite includes a concrete picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill. Many sites offer direct lake views. The campground also features a 24-hour host, fish cleaning house, camp store, playground, and pavilion.
The smaller Airpark North Campground at 3120 Highway 213 has 14 RV sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups that can accommodate rigs up to 66 feet, plus 10 primitive tent-only sites. A bathhouse with hot showers serves this area. The South Campground is extremely popular during April and May crappie season, so advance reservations are recommended.
