About

Peoples Creek Recreation Area is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground located in the southeastern Ozark foothills of Missouri on Wappapello Lake. The facility offers 57 campsites divided into two sections. The lower campground features 38 sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups, making it the only campground at Wappapello Lake with waterfront campsites and a large sandy mooring area for campers with boats. The upper campground offers 19 sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer. The day-use area includes a two-lane boat ramp with courtesy dock, an accessible fishing pier, swimming beach, and large picnic shelter. Wappapello Lake stretches 8,400 acres across 45,000 acres of public land with lightly wooded shorelines. The lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, white bass, and channel catfish. Hunting, fishing, and kayaking are popular year-round activities. Recreation opportunities extend beyond the immediate campground area with nine trail systems for hiking and biking, including the nearby Pine Ridge Nature Trail, Shell Lake Archery Trail, and Lake View Trail. The Mingo Wildlife Refuge is 11.5 miles away, Lake Wappapello State Park is 18.2 miles away, and Sam A. Baker State Park is 33.4 miles from Peoples Creek. Note that some campsites and amenities may be unavailable during high water events due to the campground's lakefront location.

Directions

From St. Louis: take I-55 South to Highway 67. Head south to D Highway. Take D Highway South for about 15 miles and look for signs. From Poplar Bluff: Take Hwy 60 East to Highway T. Then take Highway T North and look for signs.
