About

Located at the outlet structure of Wappapello Dam, Spillway Recreation Area is a day-use facility that has served visitors since 1937. The recreation area features 11 individual picnic areas and two large reservable group shelters that can accommodate up to 60 people each. Shelter 4 includes a wood-burning fireplace in the covered area. All shelters have large-capacity grills, electricity, water fountains, and water hydrants. The area provides excellent fishing access along the St. Francis River banks, with a one-lane boat ramp ideal for small watercraft and kayak launching. A centrally located 6-stall accessible restroom serves the area. Recreational amenities include a sand volleyball court, large playground, horseshoe pits, and cornhole boards. The Pine Ridge Natural Trail, a 3/4-mile double loop, begins at the Spillway Recreation Area and offers a scenic exploration of the surrounding Ozark woodlands. Note that overnight camping is not permitted at this location; campers should consider nearby Wappapello Lake campgrounds such as Greenville Recreation Area, Peoples Creek, or Redman Creek Recreation Area.
