Columbus-Belmont State Park occupies 156 acres of historic ground overlooking the Mississippi River in Hickman County, Kentucky. The park commemorates the November 1861 Battle of Belmont and preserves earthen fortifications, a massive anchor, and six-ton chain links that Confederate forces used in an attempt to block Union river traffic. The site also holds significance as a Trail of Tears encampment where Cherokee led by John Benge waited approximately ten days for river passage in 1838. The campground perches on the river bluffs offering scenic views and 38 spacious sites. All sites have electric and water hookups, with 10 sites providing full hookups including sewer connections. A central bathhouse offers restrooms, hot showers, and laundry facilities. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. A dump station serves the campground. The park operates year-round, though water to individual sites may be limited during winter months. Beyond camping, visitors can explore the Civil War museum (open April through October), hike interpretive trails, and enjoy family activities including mini golf and a playground. The park provides a quiet, off-the-beaten-path experience combining natural beauty with significant American history.
