Big Hill-pond State Park Campground

Open

The main campground is currently closed for renovations with no reopening date set. Backcountry sites remain available with a permit, and Group Campsites 2 and 3 are open for primitive camping.

About

Big Hill Pond State Park Campground sits on the edge of Big Hill Pond, an 1850s-era cypress-lined pond originally created as a borrow pit for the Memphis to Charleston Railroad. The pond is considered one of the largest in Tennessee and provides a scenic backdrop for camping. The campground features 28 rustic sites spread across a wooded area, each equipped with a picnic table and grill. The park offers a modern bathhouse with hot showers for campers, though there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups available at individual sites. Most sites can accommodate small RVs or trailers up to 20 feet in length. A camp store on site provides firewood, ice, and basic supplies. For those seeking a more primitive experience, four backcountry trail shelters are accessible along the park's 30 miles of hiking trails. The park surrounds Travis McNatt Lake, which offers boat rentals and fishing opportunities. Birding is popular here, as the diverse habitats attract numerous species. Group camping is available for larger parties seeking a more private experience.
