About
The Teanaway Guard Station is a historic log cabin retreat in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, north of Cle Elum. Originally constructed in 1950 by gold miner Archie Redding, the cabin was acquired by the Forest Service in 1978, moved to its current location, and used as a fire guard station before becoming available for rental in 2004. The 12x18-foot cabin sits at 3,200 feet elevation in the Teanaway River drainage with the icy North Fork Teanaway River just across the road. It sleeps two people on bunk beds with mattresses and includes a wood stove for heat, table and chairs, and a Coleman propane cook stove for outdoor use. The cabin has no water or electricity; guests must bring water or treat river water before use. A vault toilet and fire pit are located outdoors. Summer access is by passenger vehicle, while winter access requires ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile travel 2.2 miles from Teanaway Sno-Park along a groomed snowmobile route. The area receives up to 24 inches of snow in 24 hours, creating exceptional conditions for winter sports. Nearby Ingalls Way Trail offers stunning views of Mt. Stuart and the Enchantments, with fishing available in area streams.
