About

Sycamore Equestrian Camp And Shelter provides a dedicated camping experience for horse enthusiasts within Ohio's Sycamore State Park. The 2,384-acre park, established in 1979, represents a wooded retreat just west of Dayton along Wolf Creek. The campground features 15 primitive campsites specifically designed for equestrian use, each with gravel pads and tie-ups for horses. Campers should bring their own rope for highlines. The facility includes potable water, pit toilets, and a horse wash station. Riders have direct access to an extensive trail system spanning over 15 miles of natural-surface paths that traverse the park's diverse landscape of forests, wooded savannas, and open meadows. The trails feature gentle rolling hills and shallow creek crossings, making them suitable for riders of varying experience levels. Beyond the equestrian trails, the park offers additional recreational opportunities including fishing in stocked ponds, hiking, and seasonal hunting on nearly 1,500 acres. The park also contains a ceremonial mound from the Adena Native Americans, adding historical interest to the natural setting.
