About

Peacock Slough River Camp is nestled on the banks of the Suwannee River, positioned just south of Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park. As part of the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, this free river camp provides comfortable overnight accommodations for paddlers exploring Florida's iconic river system. The camp features five screened sleeping platforms, each accommodating up to eight people, equipped with ceiling fans, electrical outlets, hammock hooks, and small tables. Each platform has its own water spigot, fire ring, and picnic table just outside. In addition to the sleeping platforms, Peacock Slough offers primitive campsites for tent camping, along with hot showers, restroom facilities, picnic tables, grills, and a picnic pavilion. The outpouring of water from the nearby Peacock Springs system is often visible at the river camp entrance. Located at river mile 95.8, the camp sits approximately 8.3 miles downstream from Lafayette Blue Springs State Park and 9.7 miles upstream from Adams Tract River Camp. The camp is accessible only by river, with no vehicle access permitted. Outfitters can arrange gear delivery to the camp. Paddlers must prepare a float plan before departure. The Suwannee River at this location has widened considerably from its narrow upper reaches, flowing through scenic cypress-lined banks and offering access to numerous springs along the wilderness trail.
