About
Sunlight Rangers Cabin is a historic three-bedroom log cabin located within the Sunlight Ranger Station in Shoshone National Forest, approximately 40 miles northwest of Cody, Wyoming. The cabin sits in scenic Sunlight Valley near Sunlight Creek, surrounded by a grassy meadow with mixed conifer forest covering the mountainsides. The cabin accommodates up to eight guests with two queen beds and two sets of bunk beds across three bedrooms. It features a fully equipped kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, and complete cookware and utensils. The living area has a fireplace, and there's an indoor bathroom with bathtub and shower. Guests must bring their own linens, bedding, pillows, towels, and toiletries. There is no cell service at this location. Sunlight Creek offers excellent fly-fishing for cutthroat, rainbow, and brook trout, with fishing best in July after high water recedes. The surrounding area provides numerous trails for hiking, mountain biking, and off-road riding. Food storage is required due to bear activity. The cabin has a 16-day stay limit and is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments.
Directions
From Cody, drive approximately 16 miles north on Highway 120, then take Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (Highway 296) west for 22 miles, up and over Dead Indian Pass. Just before the Sunlight Bridge Overlook, turn left onto Sunlight Road (Forest Road 101) and drive west approximately 8 miles. The ranger station will be on your left; the cabin is on the east side of the station.
