About
Sunlight Rangers Cabin is located within the Sunlight Ranger Station, approximately 40 miles northwest of Cody in the Shoshone National Forest. This three-bedroom, one-bath log cabin sleeps up to eight people and provides a comfortable stay with a fully equipped kitchen and cozy fireplace. The cabin sits in scenic Sunlight Valley near Sunlight Creek, surrounded by a grassy meadow with mixed conifer forests covering the mountainsides. The area is popular for outdoor recreation, with several motorized and non-motorized trails nearby for hiking, mountain biking, and off-road enthusiasts. Sunlight Creek offers excellent fly-fishing opportunities for cutthroat, rainbow, and brook trout, with fishing typically best in July after high-water season. The cabin is available by reservation only through Recreation.gov. Note that this facility is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments, has no cell service, and requires proper food storage due to wildlife in the area. There is a 16-day maximum stay limit.
Directions
From Cody, drive approximately 16 miles north on Highway 120, then take Chief Joseph Scenic Highway 296 west for 22 miles up and over Dead Indian Pass. Turn left onto Sunlight Road/Forest Road 101 just before the Sunlight Bridge Overlook and drive west approximately 8 miles. The ranger station will be on your left; the cabin is on the east side of the station.
