About

Elk Fork Campground is a rustic Forest Service campground situated along the North Fork Shoshone River in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. The 13 sites are positioned along the river corridor approximately 28 miles west of Cody and just 25 miles from Yellowstone National Park's East Entrance. Each site includes a bear box for required food storage, fire ring with grill, picnic table, and tent pad, making it well-suited for tent camping and small RVs. The campground serves as the trailhead for Elk Fork Trail, which follows Elk Creek into the Washakie Wilderness. Horse corrals and trailer parking are provided for stock users accessing the backcountry. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. This is a primitive, first-come first-served campground with no hookups, showers, or dump station. The maximum RV spur length is 22 feet, limiting access to smaller rigs. There is no cell service at the campground. A 16-day stay limit applies, and hard-sided camping equipment is required in this area due to bear activity.
