About
Big Game Campground is located along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway in northwestern Wyoming, positioned between Cody and Yellowstone National Park's east entrance. The campground sits at 6,000 feet elevation among cottonwood and juniper trees, directly alongside the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The campground offers 16 sites, each equipped with RV parking, tent pads, bear boxes, fire rings with grills, and picnic tables. Maximum spur length is 32 feet. This is a primitive facility with vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The area has no cell service. Food storage in provided bear boxes is required due to active grizzly bear presence. The North Fork Shoshone River provides excellent fly fishing opportunities for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with frequent sightings of grizzly bears, deer, elk, bison, moose, fox, coyotes, and bald eagles. The Wapiti Wayside, less than a half-mile east, offers interpretive information on bears and local wildlife. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring Yellowstone National Park, just 23 miles west, or visiting historic Cody with its Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
Directions
From Cody, take U.S. Highway 14/16/20 west for 28 miles. The campground is on the north side of the highway next to the river, between Wapiti Campground and Horse Creek Picnic Area.
