About
Big Game Campground sits along the scenic North Fork Shoshone River in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest, surrounded by cottonwood and juniper trees at an elevation of 6,000 feet. Located 29 miles west of Cody on the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway (US Highway 14/16/20), the campground provides convenient access to Yellowstone National Park's east entrance, just 25 miles away. The campground hosts 16 sites suitable for both tent camping and RVs up to 32 feet. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear box for required food storage. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The 16-day stay limit applies, and payment is by cash or check only. The surrounding area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, with frequent sightings of grizzly bears, deer, elk, moose, bison, foxes, coyotes, and bald eagles. The North Fork Shoshone River provides quality fly fishing for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The nearby Wapiti Wayside offers interpretive information on local wildlife, and Pahaska Tepee to the west features Buffalo Bill's historic 1904 hunting lodge with tours available.
Directions
From Cody, take US Highway 14/16/20 west for 28-29 miles. The campground is on the north side of the highway next to the river, between Wapiti Campground and Horse Creek Picnic Area.
