About

Clearwater Campground is located along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway in northwestern Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. The 11-site tent-only campground sits at 6,000 feet elevation on the banks of the North Fork of the Shoshone River, surrounded by Douglas fir and large juniper trees with beautiful mountain views. It's positioned 32 miles west of Cody and approximately 20 miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance. The campground offers excellent recreational opportunities including fly-fishing for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout, hiking, scenic driving, and wildlife viewing. Visitors frequently spot grizzly bears, deer, elk, bison, moose, fox, coyotes, and bald eagles. Nearby Pahaska Tepee features Buffalo Bill's original 1904 hunting lodge with daily tours available Memorial Day through Labor Day. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box for required food storage. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Sites have a maximum 40-foot parking spur. The campground has a 16-day stay limit and no cell service. Payment is cash or check only, with Interagency Senior/Access passes providing a 50% discount.

Directions

From Cody, Wyoming, follow Sheridan Avenue west through town until it becomes the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway (US Highway 14/16/20). The campground is 32 miles west of Cody on the south side of the highway, next to the river.
