About
Located at the foothills of the Bear Lodge Mountain Range in Black Hills National Forest, Sundance Horse Camp is a premier destination for equestrian enthusiasts. The campground features 10 sites with expansive grassy areas offering scenic views of the valley and surrounding hills. Purpose-built horse facilities include sturdy corrals, hitching rails, feed bunks, and an accessible loading ramp. The Sundance Trailhead is adjacent to the campground, providing access to over 60 miles of trails maintained for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing.
The secluded trails weave through a network of densely forested canyons and open ridges that form the Bear Lodge Mountains. Some ridge tops offer views of the Custer Expedition Route, Devils Tower National Monument, and the Twin Missouri Buttes. Parts of the trail system date back to the 1800s, serving as historic routes to water sources and playing a key role in the area's mining history. Wildlife is abundant, with elk, deer, and turkey commonly seen along the trails. The campground accommodates tents, trailers, and RVs, though sites have no electrical hookups.
