About
Situated in the Black Hills National Forest in northeastern Wyoming, Cook Lake Recreation Area provides a peaceful camping experience in a heavily forested setting adjacent to Cook Lake. Some sites offer open views overlooking the lake while others sit along a hillside, with mature trees and natural spacing providing privacy between campsites. The campground features 15 standard nonelectric sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grill. Four vault toilets serve the campground, and potable water is typically available from a hand pump near the entrance (though unavailable October 1 through May 15 and subject to weather interruptions). An accessible fishing pier and picnic area are available, and floating docks make fishing easier for anglers targeting rainbow trout, brown trout, sunfish, and catfish. Approximately 4 miles of hiking and bicycling trails are accessible from the recreation area. The campground also serves as a base for horseback riding, mountain biking, and OHV riding on moderate terrain. Devils Tower National Monument and Warren Peak Lookout Tower make excellent day trips from this location.
