About

Deer Run Campground is a premium RV camping area within Summersville Lake State Park, located on the northern shore of West Virginia's largest lake in Nicholas County. The campground opened in May 2025 as part of a groundbreaking public-private partnership that created the state's first new state park in more than 30 years. The campground offers nine wooded sites designed for RV campers looking for more privacy and seclusion than the larger Overlook Campground. A mix of pull-through and back-in sites accommodates different RV configurations, and all sites feature full hookups. The natural setting among the trees provides ample room to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Summersville Lake itself spans 2,790 acres with 60 miles of shoreline, known for its exceptionally clear blue-green water and towering sandstone cliffs. Campers can enjoy swimming, boating, scuba diving, rock climbing, and hiking on trails including the Mountaineer Mile. The park operates 24/7, with reservations available through the West Virginia State Parks booking system.
