About

Long Point Recreation Area is located at Summersville Lake in Nicholas County, West Virginia, managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District. Summersville Lake, completed in 1966, is the state's largest lake and is renowned for its dramatic sandstone cliffs and crystal-clear waters. The Long Point area primarily serves as a day-use recreation facility with parking, scenic overlooks, and lake access. The lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. The surrounding area is part of a larger recreational complex that includes the nearby Battle Run Campground for overnight camping. Long Point's scenic overlook is one of the most photographed locations on Summersville Lake, offering stunning views of the cliffs and water below. The area is managed as part of the Corps' multi-purpose project that includes flood risk management, fish and wildlife enhancement, water quality, recreation, and low flow augmentation. Visitors can access the lake from this location, and the site has undergone parking realignment improvements to enhance safety and efficiency for recreational users.
