About

Summersville Lake Shelters is a day-use picnic area conveniently located just south of Summersville, West Virginia, on the shores of the state's largest lake. The facility features four large group picnic shelters that offer an ideal retreat for parties, family functions, and gatherings. Each shelter accommodates up to 50 people and includes access to flush toilets and drinking water. The 2700-acre Summersville Lake is renowned for its superb water quality and dramatic sheer sandstone cliffs. The lake provides excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming, and scuba diving. Anglers can fish for large and smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish, and catfish. The surrounding area offers great hiking, biking, hunting, and picnicking opportunities amid dense forests of maple, oak, hickory, beech, and birch trees. Wildlife including black bear, deer, grouse, and turkey is abundant in the region. Nearby attractions include Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, world-class whitewater rafting on the Gauley River, and technical rock climbing opportunities. Overnight camping is available at nearby Battle Run Campground. The town of Summersville, five miles north, offers grocery stores, restaurants, and service stations.
