Sulphur Springs Campground is a primitive, no-fee campground located in the Klamath National Forest, serving as the primary access point for the Elk Creek Trail into the Marble Mountain Wilderness. The campground features 6 walk-in campsites situated approximately 50 yards from the parking area, offering a more secluded camping experience. The main attraction is a natural warm springs located along Elk Creek, with water temperatures around 75 degrees that can accommodate five or six people at a time. This makes it a popular destination for backpackers and day hikers looking to soak after exploring the wilderness. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water or trash service, so visitors must bring adequate water and pack out all waste. Accessed via Forest Road 16N05 (Elk Creek Road), the campground sits about 12 miles south of Happy Camp on improved gravel portions of the road. The remote location and basic amenities attract self-sufficient campers seeking a quiet base camp for wilderness exploration. Dogs are allowed on leash, and camping is limited to 14 consecutive days.
Directions
From Happy Camp, head south on Forest Road 16N05 (locally known as Elk Creek Road) for approximately 12 miles to the campground. Portions of the road are improved gravel. Follow brown Forest Service signs.
