About

Stanshaw Equestrian Camp is a remote dispersed camping area in Six Rivers National Forest, situated at 4,900 feet elevation near the boundary of the Marble Mountains Wilderness. The camp serves as a staging area for equestrian recreationists heading out on the Stanshaw trail, which provides access to the wilderness area's craggy peaks, deep conifer-cloaked canyons, abundant meadows, and numerous alpine lakes. The campground offers five large campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Several corrals with running water are available for stock animals. A single vault restroom serves the camp. Potable water is not available, so visitors must bring their own drinking water supply. Access is via a 14-mile drive on Forest Road 15N17 from Highway 96 near the Salmon River Road junction. The road is suitable for horse trailers. Travel time from the highway is approximately 1¼ hours. The camp operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations.

Directions

From Highway 96, take Salmon River Road (Forest Highway 93) for ¼ mile, then turn left onto Forest Road 15N17. Continue approximately 14 miles to Stanshaw Campground/Trailhead. Travel time is approximately 1¼ hours. Road is suitable for horse trailers.
