About
Stanshaw Equestrian Camp and Trailhead is a free dispersed camping area situated at 4,900 feet elevation in the Klamath National Forest, administered by the Six Rivers National Forest. The campground was specifically developed to serve equestrian recreationists exploring the Marble Mountains Wilderness Area via the Stanshaw Trail, providing an alternative access point to ease crowding at the Haypress Trailhead. The facility features five large campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, along with multiple corrals and running water specifically for horses. One vault toilet serves the campground. The elevated location provides comfortable daytime temperatures during the summer season. The Stanshaw Trail offers a gentle grade through beautiful meadows and is maintained in better condition for pack stock compared to alternative routes. This remote camping area attracts horse enthusiasts, hunters, and wilderness backpackers seeking access to the pristine Marble Mountains Wilderness. The dispersed nature of the campground provides a quiet, uncrowded experience for those venturing into the backcountry.
