About

The Group Campground at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is situated at an elevation of approximately 1,200 feet in the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa valleys. This partially shaded camping area can accommodate up to 50 people and 20 vehicles, making it ideal for large gatherings and group events. The site is positioned next to the Robert Ferguson Observatory and includes 12-17 picnic tables, large BBQs, portable toilets, and several small horse corrals for equestrian groups. The park encompasses 2,700 acres with 25 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking through oak woodland and chaparral habitats. Sonoma Creek flows through the park, creating gorges, canyons, and a 25-foot waterfall after winter rains. Wildlife including deer, gray foxes, bobcats, and coyotes inhabit the area. On clear days, the 2,729-foot summit of Bald Mountain offers panoramic views stretching to the Sierra Nevada and the Golden Gate Bridge. The park is located about an hour from San Francisco and seven miles east of Santa Rosa. The group campground can be reserved for private parties and events. Dogs are permitted in the campground and on paved roads but must be leashed and are not allowed on trails or dirt roads. The park is operated by the nonprofit Sonoma Ecology Center and Team Sugarloaf.
