Valley Group Campground is located within the 1,900-acre Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, situated in the heart of Napa Valley wine country between St. Helena and Calistoga. This group camping facility accommodates up to 30 people and 10 vehicles, making it ideal for larger gatherings seeking a natural retreat in wine country. The campground provides access to the park's extensive trail network, with over 10 miles of hiking paths winding through diverse landscapes. Visitors can explore coastal redwood groves along Ritchey Creek, walk among Douglas-fir, tanoak, and madrone forests, or climb to scenic vistas on Coyote Peak. The 30-minute History Trail connects to nearby Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park. The campground features standard California State Park amenities including picnic tables, BBQ pits/fire rings, potable water, restrooms, and coin-operated showers. The park experiences hot, dry summers with temperatures reaching 105°F (though nights are cool) and mild, wet winters with approximately 45 inches of rain falling between December and March. Summer visitors can enjoy the seasonal swimming pool, open Saturday and Sunday afternoons with lifeguard supervision. Maximum RV length is 31 feet and maximum trailer length is 24 feet, though there is no dump station at the park. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia, and wood campfires are currently allowed (visitors should purchase firewood at the park to prevent invasive species introduction).
Directions
Located 5 miles north of St. Helena and 4 miles south of Calistoga on Highway 29/128. From the south (near coast), take Highway 101 north to Highway 37 at Novato, east on Highway 37 to Highway 121, north on Highway 121 to Highway 29 near Napa, north on Highway 29 to park entrance.
