The Madrone Cabins at Samuel P. Taylor State Park provide a unique overnight experience in the coastal redwoods of Marin County. Set along Lagunitas Creek amid towering redwoods, ferns, and oaks, the cabins offer a rustic retreat just 30 miles north of San Francisco. Each cabin features keyless entry, electric lighting and outlets, wood flooring, a covered porch, and an electric faux-wood-burning heater for warmth. Four platform bunk beds sleep up to five people, though guests must bring their own bedding, sleeping pads, cooking equipment, and flashlights. A separate restroom building with coin-operated hot showers is located a short walk from the cabins. Two cabins are wheelchair accessible, and one cabin called "Coho Redd" is reserved specifically for guests with disabilities. Dogs are not permitted in the cabin area. Reservations can be made through ReserveCalifornia from six months to two days in advance, with check-in at 3:00 PM and checkout at 11:00 AM. The park features miles of trails through old-growth redwoods, including the paved Cross Marin Trail and accessible South Creek Trail. Lagunitas Creek supports runs of coho salmon and steelhead, with creek access closed December through mid-June to protect spawning fish.

Directions

From San Francisco, take US-101 north to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard exit. Head west on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard for approximately 15 miles through San Anselmo and Fairfax. The park entrance is on the left, at 8889 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Lagunitas.
