Samuel P. Taylor Devil Gulch Group Campground

Open

The campground is open and accepting reservations. Devil Gulch operates seasonally from late February through mid-August, closing for the remainder of the year. Reservations can be made up to seven months in advance through ReserveCalifornia.

About

Devil Gulch Group Campground sits in the redwood and mixed evergreen forest of Samuel P. Taylor State Park, roughly one mile north of the main Camp Taylor camping area along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The campground provides group camping opportunities for organized parties seeking a more private setting than the standard drive-in sites. The campground consists of three sites: two tent-only group sites that can each accommodate up to 10 people at $50 per night, and a larger equestrian-only group site that accommodates up to 20 people and 12 horses at $100 per night. All sites include fire rings, picnic tables, and water spigots. The equestrian site features a corral, hitching racks, and water troughs, with a requirement that horses must be present every night of the reservation. The park offers access to miles of trails through old-growth redwoods and along Papermill Creek. Samuel P. Taylor State Park is located 15 miles west of San Rafael, making it accessible for Bay Area groups seeking a forest camping experience.

Directions

From San Rafael, drive 15 miles west on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Continue about 1 mile past the main Camp Taylor campground entrance. Park in the large pull-out on the right and walk across the street to access Devil Gulch.
