About

The Group Day Use Picnic Area at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park serves as a group camping facility for larger parties seeking overnight accommodations in Sonoma County. Located adjacent to the Robert Ferguson Observatory, campers have opportunities for stargazing programs and telescope viewing. The partially shaded site includes 12-17 picnic tables, large communal BBQs, water faucets, and two vault toilets. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park spans 4,020 acres of oak woodlands, chaparral, and redwood groves in the Mayacamas Mountains. The park offers over 25 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, including the accessible 0.44-mile Creekside Nature Trail along Sonoma Creek. From Bald Mountain summit, clear days offer views spanning from the Golden Gate to the Sierra Nevada. This is a group-only site requiring advance reservations through ReserveCalifornia. Individual campers should book at the main campground instead. Dogs are allowed but must remain leashed and are prohibited from trails and fire roads.

Directions

From Highway 12 in Kenwood, turn north onto Adobe Canyon Road. Continue approximately 3.5 miles to the park entrance. The group camping area is located near the Robert Ferguson Observatory.
