About
Cagle Recreation Area sits along the shoreline of 22,000-acre Lake Conroe on the west fork of the San Jacinto River in Sam Houston National Forest, just 45 minutes north of Houston. The campground offers 47 full-service RV sites arranged in two loops among beautiful large pine and hardwood trees. Each site includes electric, water, and sewer hookups, tent pad, lantern post, and fire ring. Some sites offer lake views. The area is covered with thousands of colorful wildflowers, with mid-February redbud blossoms followed by dogwood displays in early March. Lake Conroe and the surrounding forest provide wintering habitat for the endangered bald eagle. The facility features restrooms with flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers in both loops, a developed boat ramp with large parking area, and a picnic area overlooking the lake. Recreation opportunities include year-round fishing for black bass, boating, hiking the 2-mile Cagle Trail, mountain biking, and shoreline wading. Swimming is not allowed. The 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail is nearby. Temperatures are moderate to cool September through May, and hot and humid June through August. No alcohol is permitted at this facility.
