Avoid outdoor burning today. Immediately report any wildfires to local emergency services by calling 911. Burn restrictions remain in effect. About
Steuben Lake Campsites offer a primitive, secluded camping experience on the shores of 151-acre Steuben Lake in the Hiawatha National Forest. The two reservable dispersed sites are nestled among hardwoods and pines on the west side of the lake, providing a quiet escape for families and small groups seeking rustic camping without developed amenities. Site 1 is a large, wooded campsite measuring 75x75 feet, suitable for up to three families and trailers with a maximum capacity of 24 people. It offers a pull-through gravel driveway and direct lake access. Site 2 is an open 70x50-foot area atop a small hill, accommodating two families and up to 16 people. A constructed stairway leads down to the swimming beach, though the lake is not visible from the campsite itself. The lake has been stocked with walleye and supports populations of northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch. A boat launch capable of handling most fishing boats and trailers is located in the northwest corner via Forest Road 2662. Swimming is available at both sites. Campers must bring their own drinking water, pack out all trash, and use only dead and down firewood from the surrounding area. Supplies, bait, boat rentals, and MDNR licenses are available at Steuben, approximately two miles west on County Road 437.
Directions
