About
The two rustic campsites at Steuben Lake are nestled in the hardwood and pine forests of Hiawatha National Forest's Rapid River/Manistique Ranger District. The 151-acre lake has been stocked with walleye and offers excellent fishing opportunities for northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch. Site 1 is a large wooded campsite measuring 75 ft x 75 ft, suitable for three families and trailers, located on the west side of the lake accessed via Forest Road 2554. Site 2 is a large open area measuring 70 ft x 50 ft on top of a small hill, suitable for two families and trailers, with a constructed stairway providing access to the lake below, reached via Forest Road 2662A. Both sites offer good swimming areas, though the hill at Site 2 makes the beach difficult to see from the campsite. Boat access is available in the northwest corner of the lake along Forest Road 2662 and can accommodate most fishing boats and trailers. The rustic environment provides a peaceful setting with primitive toilets at both sites, but no drinking water is available. Visitors can collect dead and down firewood from the surrounding area. The sites are reservable through Recreation.gov and follow a pack-in, pack-out policy with a 14-day stay limit.
