About
Indian River Campground is a rustic campground perched on a bluff overlooking the scenic Indian River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The facility offers 5 large, wooded, and private campsites that provide a secluded, quiet atmosphere for campers seeking a back-to-nature experience. A short trail leads from the campground down to the river below. The campground is strategically located near the halfway point of the Indian River Canoe Trail, making it a popular overnight stop for canoeists and paddlers exploring this National Wild and Scenic River. The Indian River flows through varied northwoods scenery, ranging from connected lakes to meandering channels in incised valleys, offering excellent fishing and non-motorized boating opportunities. Despite its proximity to M-94, making it easily accessible for travelers, the campground retains a peaceful, remote feel with mature trees and natural surroundings. The campground includes picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Campers should note this is a primitive facility with no potable water or restrooms, so visitors must come prepared with their own water and be ready to practice Leave No Trace principles.
Directions
From Munising, travel east to the intersection of M-28 and M-94 in Shingleton. Turn right and drive south 14.2 miles on M-94 to the campground. From Manistique, drive north 19.8 miles on M-94 to the campground.
