About

Steamer Bay Cabin sits on the northwest corner of Etolin Island in Tongass National Forest, overlooking Steamer Bay and Clarence Strait. This 16' x 16' ADA-accessible A-frame cabin features a partially covered deck on three sides and provides views of large rock outcroppings, a grassy estuary, and tidal flats. The cabin is surrounded by densely forested mountainous terrain with Sitka spruce and western hemlock rainforest. Accessible only by floatplane (25 miles) or boat (27 miles) from Wrangell, the cabin includes 2 single bunks, table, benches, wood stove, wood shed, and splitting maul. Guests must bring their own bedding, cooking utensils, and firewood. A mooring buoy is provided for cabin guests. Saltwater fishing is excellent for king salmon (May-July), silver salmon (August-September), and halibut (June-September). Pink salmon and Dolly Varden are available in nearby Porcupine Creek. The area also offers crabbing, clamming, abalone digging, and opportunities to observe brown and black bears, Roosevelt elk, deer, waterfowl, porpoises, and whales.
