About

Yunshookuh Loop Campsite is a small, free primitive campground managed by the Tongass National Forest's Wrangell Ranger District. Situated on Wrangell Island about 14 miles south of town, the fully accessible facility accommodates both tent and RV camping across three group sites, though no hookups are available. A shared outhouse serves all sites, and a 12' x 16' covered picnic shelter sits at the middle site. The campground offers scenic views of Zimovia Strait and sees light usage, making it a quiet retreat for those seeking solitude. In winter, snow often limits road access, but the area becomes popular for sledding with access via ATV, snow machine, or skis and snowshoes. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply.

Directions

From Wrangell, drive 14 miles south on Zimovia Highway. Turn right onto Forest Road 6267 (Nemo-Skip Loop Road). The campsite is at mile marker 0.7.
