Staunton State Park

Staunton State Park, located about 40 miles southwest of Denver near Pine, Colorado, provides 25 walk-in tent campsites at approximately 8,100 feet elevation. The park encompasses over 3,800 acres of diverse terrain including granite outcrops, meadows, and forested slopes in the Front Range foothills. Each campsite includes a 12-foot by 24-foot tent pad, picnic table, and bear-proof food storage box for secure food storage in bear country. The walk-in nature of the campground means campers must carry their gear from the parking lot to their site, making this an option best suited for tent campers rather than RV or trailer camping. Vault toilets and water hydrants are available in the parking lot areas. Campfires including charcoal and wood fires are prohibited throughout the park; only cook stoves using propane or white gas are allowed. Maximum occupancy is six people per site with a 14-day limit within any 28-day period. Beyond camping, Staunton offers over 40 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park also features a Track-Chair program for visitors with disabilities to access designated trails, rock climbing on the granite formations, and fishing opportunities. The visitor center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From Denver, take US Highway 285 south to Shaffers Crossing, about six miles west of Conifer. Turn north on Elk Creek Road and follow the signs 1.5 miles to the park entrance at 12102 S. Elk Creek Road, Pine, CO 80470.
