About

Staunton State Park, Colorado's 41st state park, provides a scenic mountain camping experience just west of Denver. The park features 25 walk-in campsites set among diverse alpine landscapes ranging from high meadows to dramatic granite cliff formations. Each campsite includes a 12-foot by 24-foot tent pad, picnic table, and bear-proof food storage box, though campers must carry their gear from designated parking areas to their sites. The park is open year-round for camping and offers access to over 30 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Visitors can explore scenic waterfalls, aspen groves, pine forests, and enjoy rock climbing opportunities on towering granite walls. The park operates daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with check-in at 1 p.m. and check-out at noon. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance through cpwshop.com or by phone. The campground accommodates a maximum of six people per site with a 14-day stay limit within any 28-day period. Leashed pets are welcome. Note that all fires, including wood and charcoal, are prohibited park-wide; only propane or white gas cook stoves are permitted.
