About
Meadows Group Campground is a reservation-only group facility in the Pike National Forest's Buffalo Creek Recreation Area, located behind a locked Forest Service gate accessible only with a valid reservation. At 7,400 feet elevation in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, it offers two large group sites, each accommodating up to 150 campers and 25 vehicles. The campground features vault toilets and multiple picnic tables at each site but has no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Firewood is available for purchase at nearby Buffalo Campground. Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed at all times. A bear closure order is in effect, requiring all attractants to be stored in bear-resistant containers or hard-sided vehicles. Recreation opportunities abound, with trailheads for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding within a half-mile radius. The Colorado Trail provides access to the Lost Creek Wilderness and the popular Buffalo Creek mountain bike area. Buffalo Creek offers brook trout fishing nearby.
Directions
From Denver, take US Highway 285 southwest to Pine Junction. Turn south onto Jefferson County Road 126 and travel 13.5 miles to Forest Service Road 550. Travel west for 5.5 miles, then stay left for another mile. The campground will be on the left.
