Lost Park Campground is a remote, high-elevation campground located at 10,000 feet in the Pike National Forest, approximately 21 miles southeast of Jefferson via US 285 and County Road 56. The campground features 12 first-come, first-served campsites nestled in a scenic alpine setting near the Lost Creek Wilderness Area.
The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. There are no hookups or trash service, so visitors must pack out all garbage. The maximum trailer length is 22 feet, making this campground best suited for smaller RVs, trailers, and tent camping.
Lost Park serves as an excellent base for exploring the Lost Creek Wilderness, with trailheads providing access to the Brookside-McCurdy Trail and Wigwam Trail. The area is known for its unique granite formations, alpine meadows, and diverse wildlife. The remote location and challenging access road ensure a quieter camping experience away from crowds.
Directions
From Fairplay, travel north on US 285 to the town of Jefferson. Turn right on County Road 56 and follow for 17 miles to the campground. The road is dirt and narrow in sections, accessible by 2WD vehicles in dry conditions but may require 4WD or high clearance in poor conditions.
