About

St. Lucie South Campground provides a relaxing tropical camping experience on the St. Lucie Canal, part of the 152-mile Okeechobee Waterway that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation about 25 miles east of Lake Okeechobee, the second largest freshwater lake in the United States. The campground features waterfront RV sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups, tent sites with electric, and cruiser sites for boat campers. All boat slips include 50-amp electric and water. A dump station, visitor center, group picnic shelter, and horseshoe pit are available on-site. Campers can watch boats and the occasional manatee pass through the St. Lucie Lock, hike the St. Lucie Nature Trail on the north side of the canal, or fish and boat on the St. Lucie Canal and south fork of the St. Lucie River. Nearby attractions include the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge for bird watching, the city of Stuart with restaurants and shopping, sandy beaches on Hutchison Island, and the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce. The campground gate opens at 6:00 a.m. and closes at sunset. Campers are limited to 14 consecutive days per 30-day period across both St. Lucie South and Ortona South campgrounds combined.
