About

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park Campground provides a unique opportunity to experience Florida's largest remaining tract of dry prairie ecosystem. The Kilpatrick Hammock Campground features 35 sites with water and electric hookups, situated 5 miles from the park entrance for maximum remoteness and tranquility. The preserve protects 54,000 acres of prairie, wetlands, and hardwood hammocks, home to rare species including the endangered Florida grasshopper sparrow, burrowing owls, and crested caracaras. Designated as Florida's first International Dark Sky Park in 2016, this location offers unparalleled stargazing opportunities far removed from urban light pollution. Campers can see the Milky Way without telescopes. The campground includes a spacious accessible restroom with showers and laundry facilities, plus a centralized dump station. Over 100 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding traverse the varied habitats. The campground also features a separate equestrian loop with 10 sites including paddocks, and three wilderness primitive campsites accessible only by hiking or biking. Glamping options with safari tents are available. The preserve's remoteness and diverse ecosystems make it ideal for nature enthusiasts seeking solitude, wildlife photography, and authentic Florida wilderness experiences.
