About
Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Southeast Florida's largest state park with over 10,000 acres, offers two well-equipped family campgrounds set within 16 distinct natural communities along the federally designated Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River. Pine Grove Campground features 90 sites with full hookups including water, electricity, and sewer, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. River Campground provides 52 sites with water and electricity located 4 miles from the entrance near the river, accommodating RVs up to 36 feet. Both campgrounds include large tiled restrooms with hot showers, laundry facilities, picnic tables, grills, and campfire circles. The park's diverse ecosystems range from coastal sand hills and scrub forests to cypress-lined river swamps and mangrove estuaries. Visitors can explore nearly 25 miles of hiking trails including segments of the Florida Trail, a 9-mile mountain biking system with terrain from beginner to expert, and 8 miles of equestrian trails. The Loxahatchee River offers exceptional paddling through centuries-old cypress canopies transitioning to mangrove-lined estuaries teeming with wildlife including alligators, manatees, otters, and over 150 bird species. Ranger-guided pontoon boat tours visit Trapper Nelson's restored 1930s homestead, revealing the story of the legendary "Wildman of the Loxahatchee." The Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center provides interpretive programs and exhibits about the park's natural and cultural history. Glamping tents, cabins, primitive backpack camps, and group youth camping are also available.
