About

Wildcow Primitive Group Camp is located within the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest in western Hendry and northeastern Collier counties, approximately 30 miles east of Fort Myers. This primitive group campsite offers a true wilderness experience in one of the few places in South Florida where the pre-Columbian landscape can still be observed. The campsite accommodates up to 10 people and provides basic amenities including an elevated tent platform, picnic table, and fire ring with grill. No water or electric facilities are available, so campers must be self-sufficient. Portable restrooms are provided. The forest features the 32,370-acre Okaloacoochee Slough, a pristine north-south oriented slough that supplies water to the Fakahatchee Strand and Big Cypress Preserve. Recreational opportunities abound with many miles of forest roads for hiking and bicycling, numerous canals, ponds and ditches for fishing, and excellent wildlife viewing in the forest's wetlands. The area is also popular for hunting during designated seasons. Reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Forests reservation system.
