About

Okaloacoochee Slough Overflow Camp provides a rustic camping experience in one of South Florida's most ecologically significant landscapes. Located within the 32,000-acre Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest in western Hendry County, this primitive campground serves as a gateway to exploring the pristine slough that protects the headwaters of the Big Cypress Swamp. The campground features 6 sites that accommodate tents or RVs up to 40 feet in length, with a maximum of 5 people per site. Amenities are basic: fire rings, grills, and picnic tables at each site. There is no potable water, electric hookups, or showers, so campers must be fully self-sufficient. Portable toilets are provided during hunting season. Generators are permitted and pets are allowed. The surrounding forest is one of the last strongholds of the Florida panther and offers excellent opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, fishing, and hunting in season. Campers should be bear aware and store all food in approved containers or locked vehicles.
