About

Located along the shores of Amistad Reservoir, Spur 406 Campground provides primitive camping in a desert oasis setting. The campground offers 6 first-come, first-served sites with paved roads and gravel ground surfaces, making it accessible for both tent campers and RVs of all sizes. Each site is equipped with a covered picnic table and BBQ grill, providing shade in the hot Texas climate. The campground features vault toilets but visitors must bring their own water, as no potable water is available on-site. No hookups of any kind are provided, making this a true primitive camping experience. Ground fires are prohibited; cooking must be done on the provided grills. A boat launch ramp is located off the campground, though access depends on current lake levels. Amistad National Recreation Area is known for excellent water-based recreation including boating, fishing, and scuba diving, as well as rich cultural history dating back nearly 5,000 years. The semi-arid, subtropical climate brings long, hot, humid summers and mild winters. The campground is located about 13 miles west of the visitor center on US Highway 90, then 2 miles down Spur 406. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive nights per campground, with a maximum of 60 nights in the park per calendar year.

Directions

From Amistad National Recreation Area's Visitor Center, head west on US Highway 90 and travel 13.2 miles. Take a sharp right onto Spur 406 and go about 2 miles.
