About

Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site encompasses 2,172 acres of rugged canyon country along the Rio Grande in Val Verde County. The park features 46 campsites divided into three categories: 23 sites with water and 50-amp electrical hookups in the Desert Vista area, 8 sites with water only, and 15 primitive pull-through sites in the Roadrunner Flat area. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and lantern posts, with restrooms and showers nearby. The park is renowned for its ancient pictographs created by early canyon dwellers thousands of years ago. Access to Seminole Canyon itself requires a guided tour, but the park offers nearly 10 miles of hiking and biking trails open for self-guided exploration, including the Rio Grande Trail, Canyon Rim Trail, and Presa Overlook Trail. The park provides stunning views of deep canyons and the Pecos River confluence area. Sites 35, 43, and 44 are wheelchair accessible.
