About

Garner State Park sits in the heart of the Texas Hill Country along one of the state's most beloved spring-fed waterways, the Frio River. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park's rustic stone structures and scenic terraces have made it a multi-generational favorite for Texas families. The 1,774-acre park features 2.9 miles of river frontage with classic limestone swimming holes, making it an essential summer escape. Camping accommodations span the full spectrum: primitive walk-in sites, water-only tent camping in Pecan Grove and Persimmon Hill, water/electric sites with 20-50 amp service in multiple loops, and full-hookup pull-through sites in Shady Meadows with water, sewer, and electric. Most sites include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and lantern posts. Restrooms with showers are distributed throughout the camping areas, with ADA-compliant facilities in Shady Meadows. Beyond camping, the park offers 16 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy riverside walks to rugged Hill Country terrain, plus paddle boat and kayak rentals, inner tubes, and miniature golf through a seasonal concessionaire. The park is famous for summer jukebox dances at the concession pavilion. During peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the park frequently reaches capacity and closes to day visitors by mid-morning.
