About

Spruce Grove Trail Camp is a rustic hike-in campground located at 3,100 feet elevation in the Angeles National Forest within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. This backcountry camp features 7 primitive campsites accessible only by trail, making it a popular destination for backpackers seeking a relatively easy overnight trip near Los Angeles. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables, fire rings (Klamath stoves), and vault toilets. No trash service is provided, so visitors must pack out all waste. Stream water is available seasonally but must be treated before use; however, flow may be low or non-existent during dry periods, so bringing adequate water is essential. The camp operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required and no fees charged.

Directions

From Sierra Madre, take the Chantry Flat Road to the Chantry Flat Recreation Area. From there, hike approximately 4 miles along the Gabrielino Trail to reach Spruce Grove Campground.
