About
Glenn Camp sits at 2,000 feet elevation in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, offering a true backcountry camping experience despite its relatively low elevation. The campground is only accessible by hiking or biking approximately 7 miles from the Highway 39 trailhead, though physically challenged groups may obtain a permit from the Glendora ranger office to drive to the campground. The route follows a designated National Scenic Bikeway that parallels the West Fork of the San Gabriel River through scenic canyon terrain. The campground features 10 campsites, each with a picnic table and fire pit. Stream water is available but must be boiled or treated before use, and vault toilets are provided. The area is known for its native trout fishing, with several accessible fishing platforms available. Catch-and-keep regulations apply from the gate to the second bridge, while catch-and-release only is required from the second bridge upstream to Cogswell Reservoir. A California fishing license is required. This is a lightly-used campground ideal for those seeking solitude and a backcountry experience. An Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required for parking at the trailhead. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day maximum stay limit.
Directions
From Interstate 210 in Azusa, exit Azusa Avenue. Drive 12 miles north on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Highway 39) to the trailhead at the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. Hike or bike 7 miles from the locked gate to reach the campground.
