About
Idlehour Trail Camp is a remote, primitive backcountry campground nestled at 2,500 feet in the rugged San Gabriel Mountains within Angeles National Forest. The camp offers three hike-in sites, each equipped with only a picnic table. There are no Forest Service-provided fire appliances, toilets, trash receptacles, or potable water. A seasonal stream may provide water when flowing, but it must be treated or boiled before use and may be unavailable during drought conditions. Access requires hiking in from the Chantry Flat area via the Mt. Wilson Toll Road and Idlehour Trail. The trail passes above historic Henninger Flat. This is a true backcountry experience suited for self-sufficient hikers seeking solitude. An Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required, along with a California Campfire Permit if planning to use any fire or stove.
Directions
Access via hiking from Chantry Flat Picnic Area. Take the Mt. Wilson Toll Road above Henninger Flat to the Idlehour Trail.
