About
Located along the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail in Angeles National Forest, Valley Forge Campground offers a true backcountry experience at 3,500 feet elevation. This trailside camp features 6 primitive sites available first-come, first-served and is accessible only by non-motorized travel—hiking, biking, or horseback. The campground is positioned near the San Gabriel River and can be reached via the Gabrielino Trail from Redbox Picnic Area (approximately 2.9 miles) or from Eaton Saddle via the Valley Forge Trail (approximately 3 miles). This is a primitive backcountry camp with vault toilets and access to stream water that must be treated before use. Water flow can be low or non-existent during dry periods, so campers should be prepared to pack in their own water. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. A California Campfire Permit is required and can be obtained online or at any Forest Service office. The $5 per night fee must be paid with cash or check. Adventure Passes and Interagency Passes are honored.
Directions
From Redbox Picnic Area, follow the Gabrielino Trail for 0.7 miles to forest road 2N24. Head east on 2N24 for 2.2 miles to Valley Forge Trail Camp. Alternatively, from Eaton Saddle on Mt. Wilson Road, take the Valley Forge Trail for approximately 3 miles. Closed to motor vehicles; hike-in, bike-in, or equestrian access only.
