About

Spring Camp is a remote, primitive campground in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, situated at 4,700 feet elevation along the Rincon-Shortcut OHV Route. This small facility offers 3 OHV/hike-in campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and hitching rails for equestrian use. Access requires navigating rough forest roads 2N24 and 2N31, making it ideal for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts and experienced backcountry campers seeking solitude. The campground has one vault toilet and one trash receptacle, but no potable water. Seasonal stream water may be available but must be treated or boiled before use, and flow can be minimal or nonexistent during dry periods. Campers should bring adequate water for all needs. An Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required, along with a California Campfire Permit and a permit for use of the Rincon-Shortcut OHV Route. Spring Camp offers a true backcountry experience with light usage, making it a peaceful destination for those prepared for primitive conditions. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis when open, with overnight fees of $5 per night.

Directions

From Interstate 210 and CA-39, drive 12.5 miles north on CA-39 to Forest Road 2N24 (Rincon-Redbox Road). Continue 12.8 miles on 2N24 to Forest Road 2N31 (Upper Clamshell Truck Trail). Turn left onto 2N31 and proceed 0.2 miles to Spring Camp. Roads are rough and require high clearance vehicles.
